First time in the history in 4th july, 1777, the morden Americans celebrated their first anniversary and find quite familiar. In Bristol, Rhode Island Bristol, thirteen gunshots were fired in salute, once at morning and once again as evening. In the night an official dinner for the continental congress was held and Ships in port were decked.
4th july, 1778 was marked with a double ration of rum for his soldiers and an artillery salute by General George Washington at Ross Hall, near New Brunswick, New Jersey. Across the Atlantic Ocean, ambassadors John Adams and Benjamin Franklin held a dinner in Paris, France for their fellow Americans.
First time in 1779 The holiday was celebrated on Monday, July 5 , because July 4 was fell on Sunday.
In 1781 , first time the July 4th was recognize as a state celebration by the Massachusetts General Court.
In 1783 first time the 4th July was celebrated with a challenging music program assembled by Johann Friedrich Peter at Moravians in Salem, North Carolina. This is recognized as the first recorded celebration and is still celebrated there today. This musical celebration was titled The Psalm of Joy.
- In 1870 theIndependence Day was made an unpaid holiday for federal employees by the S. Congress.
- In 1938 Congress changed Independence Day to a paid federal holiday.
